The public highway system in Texas commissions artists to create 'art' for the thousands of miles of roadway in this great state. It is often rather generic but adds a little bit of color and interesting shapes to liven up the scenes along the drive. Here is a ubiquitous bluebonnet glazed tile in the shape of the state of Texas. This is on a bridge embankment on Highway 59 along the exit to Highway 1960.

As Seen in Texas
While we do have outstanding world class art being made and exhibited in Texas, we also have our fair share of 'community art' - in the cities as well as in the rural towns and counties of this vast state. I found this image on the web, but it is fairly emblematic of the type of 'community art' that I am speaking of. And it gives you a visual reference for Russ Havard's comments in his interview above.
